The A414 Park Street roundabout will be getting a new surface and improved drainage over Easter, meaning overnight closures of the roundabout while works take place.
The county council’s contractors, Eurovia, will be replacing the existing worn-out road surface, replacing damaged ironwork covers, replacing and refreshing road markings and studs, improving drainage and cleaning the existing drains, reinstating high friction surfacing material and mending kerbs.
The works are due to start on Monday 15 April and are expected to take seven nights to complete (excluding weekends and bank holidays), weather permitting. The road will need to be closed while these works take place, and to minimise disruption the works will be carried out overnight between 8 pm and 5 am in two phases. The first phase between 15 and 19 April will see the eastbound A414 and A5183 Watling Street leading from St Albans to the roundabout closed. The second phase between 23 and 26 April will see the westbound A414 and the stretches of the A405 and A5183 leading to the roundabout closed.

Mark Kemp, Director of Environment and Infrastructure, said: “There is never a good time to do large-scale works of this nature, but the existing road surface will become unsafe if we leave it. We’re planning to carry out the works overnight to avoid disrupting rush hour traffic and I hope people will bear with us while we carry out these important works.”
