London Colney - Cllr Simon CALDER
Simon Calder has served as a district councillor for London Colney for 8 years and has a track record of delivering for residents, including those living with damp in Cotlandswick.
Simon said: “My family and I love the community of the village, but I share residents’ frustrations at the extortionate rises in council tax despite seeing local services get worse. I feel honoured to be able to be a voice for the vulnerable in London Colney."
London Colney - Ambrose KILLEN
A former policeman of 30 years, Ambrose Killen grew up in London Colney. He is a member of the NHS Research Ethics Committee for Herts. He is also a member of the Ver Valley Society, the Herts and Middx Trust, and the Conservative Environmental Network.
Ambrose said: "I want to safeguard our green belt and chalk streams and will bring a forensic approach to council matters, working towards genuine environmental enhancement, not the superficial “greenwashing ’ policies of the Lib Dems."
Marshalswick East & Jersey Farm - Frances LEONARD
I have lived in Marshalswick for many years and, until 2022, was a ward councillor for Jersey Farm and Sandridge. I served on many council committees, including planning and scrutiny, I know the area extremely well and gained a huge insight into the district as a whole when I served as Mayor. I always worked very hard to represent all residents and helped in every way that I could.
Since I left the Council, I have worked with residents to push a local developer to fulfil their planning obligations and I have achieved the installation of a bridleway. I also fundraise for the Smallford station on the Alban Way. I am on the management committee of Jersey Farm Woodland Park and work on projects such as hedge, tree and wildflower planting, hedge laying and general maintenance.
If elected I will hold the Lib Dems to account for their financial mismanagement. Currently there is little opposition and very poor decisions are being made.
I’m proud to be able to call St Albans my home for well over 20 years. However, in recent times, thanks to the mismanagement of St Albans City & District Council, this wonderful city has suffered with council tax at an all time high, local services costing more yet delivering less and green spaces coming under constant threat from unwanted developments. This cannot continue, so it’s time to hold the council to account for its failings. This is why I am running to be your councillor - St Albans needs change.
Now, the Lib Dems have renewed their pledge to build 380,000 new houses nationally, and St Albans district council's proposed Local Plan has placed 2,000 acres of green belt at risk of being paved over, despite outcry from local residents. It is clear that the current council leadership is completely out of touch with the concerns of residents. On May 2nd let's send a clear message to the Lib Dems that they can't take residents for granted any more!
